Summer 2008 Science Explorers Summer Camp
Summer camp programs at the South Florida Museum are based on the idea that kids learn by doing, and that they enjoy doing science. Throughout the summer, our campers will "become" geologists, paleontologists, archeologists, science artists, marine biologists and astronomers through hands-on activities and museum exploration.
Geology & Rock Camp—The museum has developed a special exhibition, "The Land Beneath our Feet" for Summer 2008, and our campers will be among the first to explore Florida geology and learn all there is to know about rocks and minerals.
Paleontology Camp—Working with real fossils and the museum's exhibitions, we'll explore how we know what we know about extinct species.
Archeology Camp—Using the museum's extensive archeological collections, campers will discover the clues found in the broken pottery, old arrowheads, and shell tools left behind by Florida's native peoples.
Art Camp—Artists bring scientific discoveries to life, and the museum is filled with wonderful art. We'll try out a variety of art techniques that bridge the gap between art and science.
Manatee Camp—The Parker Manatee Aquarium is home to Snooty, the world's most famous manatee. There's no better place to learn everything there is to know about manatees.
Space Camp—With the Bishop Planetarium as our base, we'll venture out into space to learn all there is to know about the planets of our solar system, the stars of our galaxy, and the galaxies in our universe.
