The Museum offers a Science Education & Enrichment program for students who are homeschooled. The homeschool program is based on a three-year content cycle and is structured to touch on the major benchmarks in state and national science standards. The first year focuses on Physical Science, the second on Earth & Space Science and the third on Life & Environmental Science.
Junior-Level classes for students in grades 2-6 combine group discussions and hands on classroom activities with extensive use of the Museum’s exhibitions and manatee habitat, along with mini-field trips to the Riverwalk for nature observation.
Senior-Level classes for students in grades 7-12 include activities designed to practice laboratory skills as well.
Parents of Junior Level students are welcome to attend class with their child if they so choose. Classes run from October through May and meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. Registration for each cycle opens the last week in August.
A waiver and authorization form is required for each student attending homeschool classes.
