Discover Florida's Lifeways, Waterways, and Natureways. The South Florida Museum provides a unique
educational setting where your class can discover museum wonders, and learn about endangered species
with our West Indian Manatee-in–residence, Snooty™.
Museum exhibits focus on Florida's cultural and natural history. Classes can view a prehistoric
bison hunt, learn about Paleoindians, and stand next to the largest mastodon every recovered in
North America.
Discovery Place is a hands-on classroom that features Florida fossils, seashells, rocks and minerals,
animal tracks, microscopes, and other appealing objects for young students and visitors.
Educational programs are tied to FCAT and Florida's Sunshine State Standards. School tour
programs are offered in the mornings from 10 am to 1 pm (Mon-Fri) and can be tailored to fit
your educational needs.
The South Florida Museum also offers programs for adults that include tours of the museum
permanent exhibits and new exhibits in the East Gallery of changing exhibits, and an educational
presentation on manatees in the Parker Manatee Aquarium.

We are happy to announce our plans for the South Florida Museum's "Museum Science Education & Enrichment" (MSEE) Program for 2007-2008. As you may be aware,
the MSEE Program is based on a three-year content cycle. The coming year will focus on Physical Science, with a strong emphasis on physics (matter, energy, simple
machines) and a minor focus on chemistry (mixtures and solutions).
Classes will combine discussion of the theory of physics (and, where appropriate, its relation to chemistry) with hands-on learning experiences. Our primary goal
will be to develop a working understanding of how scientists think about, measure, and describe matter and energy. Our work will, by necessity, require basic
mathematics. However, the course is designed to present physics to the non-mathematician.
We are changing the way we offer MSEE in 2007-2008. Only two levels of classes will be offered – the Junior level will be appropriate for grades 3 – 6, the Senior
level will be appropriate for grades 7 – 12. In addition, a one-hour Senior Discussion Group will be offered once each month for Senior students in grades 10 – 12.
Classes will be held on the first* and third Wednesday of each month beginning on October 3, 2007 and ending May 7, 2008, for a total of thirteen class sessions.
(*There will be no classes on January 2, 2008 and April 2, 2008).
Junior level will meet from 1 pm to 2 pm. Senior level will meet from 2:30 to 3:30. All classes run for one hour.
The Senior Discussion Group will meet for one hour immediately following class on the third Wednesday of each month.
Pre-Registration for students who have participated in past MSEE classes will open Tuesday, August 14 and close on Friday, August 17. Pre-Registration must be
done in person at the Museum between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m, and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Full payment for the course
is required at the time of registration.
If classes are not filled, Open Registration will open on Thursday, September 6 at 10:00 a.m. Registration must be done in person at the Museum, and will be accepted
on a first-come, first-served basis. Full payment for the course is required at the time of registration. The number of openings for each level will be posted here
no later than August 24.
