After Snooty's tragic death in July, the South Florida Museum made a promise to the community to examine — with the help of outside experts — whether there were failures of physical facilities, whether there were human errors and whether appropriate policies and operating procedures were in place and followed. Snooty, the world's oldest-known manatee, died on July 23, 2017 at age 69. "Our initial findings indicate that Snooty's death was a heartbreaking accident and we're all devastated about his passing," said Brynne Anne Besio, the Museum's CEO.
