Parker Manatee Aquarium Home of Snooty™, the world's most recognized Manatee. Born at the old Miami Aquarium and Tackle Company, Snooty™ came to the South Florida Museum in 1949 as Baby Snoots. Snooty™ Designed to exceed federal standards, the Parker Manatee Aquarium provides a medication pool and both above-and below- water viewing. The pool holds approximately 60,000 gallons of water and includes both deep and shallow water to provide continuity for Snooty's feeding habits. In February, 1998, having been designated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service a part of the Manatee Rehabilitation Network. Snooty™ was joined by his first-ever temporary pool mate, a youngster named "Newton". Since then, he has hosted a succession of young manatees being readied for re-release to their natural habitats, including "Palma Sola", "DeSoto Park", "Salvador", "Angelito", "Pasa Grille Baby", "Ft. Myers Baby", and a delightful young female named "Whittaker", who was rescued from Whittaker Bayou in Sarasota County. Each year, several generations of visitors help Snooty celebrate his birthday at a free Birthday Bash and Wildlife Awareness Festival, complete with a birthday card contest and treats for the kids. This is very special because Snooty was the first manatee to have an actual, recorded birth date! Manatee programs are during museum hours at 11:15 am, 1:00 pm, 2:45 pm, and 3:45 pm daily.
