The Prinz Valdemar, a Danish warship that capsized in the Miami harbor in 1926, later became a floating restaurant and the Miami Aquarium Tackle Company and served as the birthplace for Snooty, currently the oldest living manatee in captivity.

Baby Snoots came to Bradenton for the Desoto Celebration.

Snooty makes Bradenton his permanent home, residing in a tank built inside the Chamber of Commerce Pier Building in an area specified for The South Florida Museum.

Snooty was moved to the newly constructed South Florida Museum and a new twelve foot by twenty foot tank.

Snooty is declared Manatee County’s official mascot by the county commissioners.

Snooty was filmed for the popular children’s television show, Captain Kangaroo, as part of a documentary on manatees.

A hydrophone was placed in Snooty’s tank. It was the first time people recognized the high pitched squeaks as Snooty’s vocalization.

Snooty undergoes training and aides researchers trying to determine how well manatees hear at different frequencies.

Snooty moves to his 60,000 gallon tank in the Parker Manatee Aquarium at The South Florida Museum

Parker Manatee Aquarium became part of the Florida network for rehabilitation manatees and Snooty was introduced to his first tank mate, Newton.

Snooty celebrated his 60th Birthday at his annual Birthday Bash and Wildlife Festival. Snooty’s life history has made him one of the most renowned stewards for endangered species and the environment.
